100th comic kitty surprise.
Hahahaha!!! I was scrolling down and when I got to the cat panel I had about the same reaction as Jenny! Love how in the last panel the kitty is so confused by her reaction: “Whatcha down there for? Why aren’t you petting me or opening a can of food?” Great update!
Something similar happened to my grandmother once. Back in the late 1960s we had a family friend who had a huge Marmalade cat named “Vladimir”. At some point early in his life, Vladimir had been in a fight and had been disfigured in such a way that the surgery to fix it had left him with a lopsided smile. (“Would you like to know how I got this scar?”) Whenever our friend left Vladimir with us to go on business trips (he was an architect, IIRC), Vladimir would immediately take refuge in the cupboards over the sink. (He didn’t like kids.) One time my grandparents came for Christmas and my mom forgot to tell them that Vladimir was still there. While helping mom with dinner, my grandmother needed something from the cupboard and opened the door and came face to face with this lopsidedly smiling cat. She immediately shut the door and exclaimed, “Mary! Are you aware that you have a Cheshire Cat in your kitchen?!” One of my favorite family moments…
Thanks for sharing that story! My own cats have been obsessed with dashing into closets, so if one is missing it’s the first place we’ll check. Cats sure do like their dark, enclosed spaces.
Hee, that’s great. Your grandmother handled that remarkably well!
Thanks! There wasn’t much that she couldn’t handle. (BTW: Love your webcomic!)
