Not much to report at the moment other than I’m still working. Comic #96 is half inked right now. Having a buffer will be really nice, especially if I want to do any *wink* double update weeks in the future.
Hey guys. It’s been a while.
Over the last couple of months, I’ve been polishing scripts, scribbling thumbnails, and drawing comics. I already have seven pages drawn and five of those scanned, cleaned, and lettered. I did a bit of maintenance on the site tonight since it’s kind of gathered cobwebs in my absence. My website skills aren’t that great, but at least all pages are now functional again. I may make some more cosmetic changes in the future, but without comics there would be no point! I can’t say exactly when the comic will make its return, but it will be… soonish.
Making this comic has been really fun for me and I’m excited to be working on it again. Unfortunately, hosting the site and having the comics colored is a bit expensive. Being a mom and also a homeowner, I don’t have as much disposable income to pay for these things as I used to. I’ve signed up for Patreon, which hopefully will help offset the costs of sharing Northwind with you all. My account isn’t active yet and I have some things to arrange in the background, but I wanted to give you guys a heads up on what’s going on. I’m going to try to update this blog every week to show my progress until actual updates resume. I’ll also be posting to Northwind’s twitter @NWcomic with other news and possibly sneak peeks.
I’m going to have to make this quick since my son just woke up from his nap. I’ve been reading all of the comments asking about the status of the comic and if it’s coming back soon. It is coming back, but unfortunately not very soon. I’ve been snagged on some plot points and it’s holding me back. Not having a writer or co-creator makes things like this difficult to work through. That and my day job has been super stressful for the last couple of months and that makes it hard to concentrate on much of anything once I get home. I do appreciate that you guys still visit the site and are interested in the story.
My family is doing fine. Will is still growing like a weed. He’ll be a year old next month. He adores the cats and gives them hugs before he goes to bed at night. I bought him his own stuffed black cat, and he named it Gop-Gop.
I apologize for pretty much disappearing for the last three months. A lot has happened! I gave birth to my son William on April 13th. I love him to bits, but he’s taken up most of my free time since he was born. I’ve barely been able to pick up a pencil lately, let alone sit in front of a computer for any amount of time before he needs my attention. Will’s growing like a weed. He’s not even two months old yet and is starting to wear 6 month clothing.
Today I plan to work a bit on thumbnails since those are easy to put down if needed. Unfortunately, with having to pay the hospital bills, I won’t be able to afford to color the comic any time soon. I don’t expect updates to resume for quite a while anyway, but I am getting things back into motion.
I know I said I’d try updating again, but it hasn’t worked out. Having a full time job and drawing the comic in my free time is difficult enough when I’m at 100%. With getting the house and nursery ready and the physical stress my body’s been under it’s been impossible to find the time and energy to draw. Really, once the third trimester started, my ability to do much of anything took a nosedive. Even sleeping. Sleeping is so hard, even though I’d like to do it all the time. The baby and I are doing fine, though! I’m at 33 weeks today, so baby could be born any day now. (37-40 weeks is pretty standard, but there is a lot of variation.)
Thanks to everyone for your patience. I can’t make any promises as to when the comic will resume again, only that it will.
